IAED Celebrates 60th World Interiors Day! ‘‘International Design Studio: EXPO 2025 OSAKA Design Project’’
The second of the series was ‘International Design Studio: EXPO 2025 OSAKA Design Project’, in collaboration with Dr. Junichi Ito and Prof. Kaname Yanagisawa from Chiba University, Marco G. Corbella and Valentina Noce from Politecnico di Milano, and Dr. Architect Alex Mitxelena from Universidad del País Vasco. Within the scope of the Turkish contribution of the “International Design Studio: EXPO 2025 Osaka Design Project” coordinated by Prof. Deniz Hasırcı and Res. Asst. Yasemin Albayrak Kutlay from Izmir University of Economics and attended by nine volunteer students, students, academics and colleagues came together to discuss Interior Architecture and design at a global level.
The opening ceremony began with an opening speech by Prof. Dr. Deniz Hasırcı, who spoke about the significance of IFI World Interiors Day for the recognition of the profession around the world, the importance of national and international collaborations, and personal friendship with Prof. Yanagisawa. This was followed by, Research Assistant Yasemin Albayrak Kutlay’s presentation of the International Design Studio process. Prof. Dr. Kaname Yanagisawa from Chiba University focused on “research-based design” in addition to the productive and long-term cooperation between Izmir University of Economics and Chiba University. International design studio projects were presented by the students which were realized in Interior Architecture and Environmental Design students Hatice Gök, Mehmet Deniz Özdemir, Hasan Alp, Hilal Serra Felek, Cafer Denizhan Evşen, Osman Mert Tosun, Elifnaz Kırkpınar, İlayda Uygur, and Kuzey Türkel shared the projects they developed throughout the fall semester.
At the closing of the program, the Department Head of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Assoc. Prof. Emre Ergül, the President of the Interior Architects Association Izmir Branch, Burcu Yazgan, and the Member of the Architecture Professional Group of the Izmir Chamber of Commerce, Jülide Tutan Hergül, discussed the distinctive aspects of interior design education at Izmir University of Economics, collaboration of interior design profession with different design disciplines, international cooperation, sustainability, and talked about recent projects. The closing remarks were given by Hasırcı and certificates were presented to the students. The event was attended by various professional chambers and Izmir University of Economics students and graduates.
