IFI convenes 28 African nations for a regional discussion about Design and its education

The International Federation of Interior Architects/ Designers (IFI), in collaboration with Design Week Lagos, is hosting the IFI African Regional Roundtable on 21st October 2021. One of IFI’s goals is to expand internationally the contribution and awareness of the Interior Architecture/ Design profession through the exchange and development of knowledge and experience in education, research and practice, through fellowship and community.

The African Regional Roundtable, an interactive virtual event, provides an opportunity for the diverse design community in Africa to come and discuss the IFI Education Policy Implementation, the emergence of interior design standards in Africa and other key innovation topics. The roundtable brings together over 5000 Pan-African designers, including practitioners, academic institutions, educators, professional associations, policymakers, governments and students.

The event provides insight into IFI Education Policy, key developments such as global considerations (aspirational & practical), graduates’ capabilities and competence, graduates’ qualities and professional guidelines. The IFI Executive Board presents the IFI education policy outcome. Individual roundtable presentations from each board member are followed by discussions and questions from the roundtable participants. There are three components to this virtual roundtable:

  1. A roundtable session with the African interior design community leaders where the Education Policy will be presented and discussions with the leaders of the
interior design community. The discussion will be on the implementation of this policy in the region.
  2. A panel discussion on “Cultural identity in design”.
  3. Breakout Sessions are led by leaders of the African interior design community. There are several concurrent sessions for the French and English-Speaking communities. Each session is 25 minutes long.
