Programs “Hacéte Cargo” de Liceo Suarez
In celebration of IFI WID 2019, Universidad ORT Uruguay in partnership with ADDIP took the theme of “Designing Spaces, Changing Lives” and used it to initiate the opportunity to look upon those who need a spotlight shown upon their lives as it relates to design, people, culture and spaces. To promote cultural awareness on many levels, the celebrations for IFI WID this year focused on environmental awareness, and how environmental awareness helps people achieve better daily activities and how these activities establish better spaces. These relationships between environmental awareness, healthy daily activities, and better spaces, the importance of Interior Design is established, highlighting how Interior Design shapes human habitats.
ADDIP and Universidad ORT Uruguay, with Universidad de la Empresa (UDE), Instituto Universitario BIOS, and Escuela Graciela Mattos were joined by high school students and faculty/teachers from the Liceo Suárez program “Hacéte Cargo” to work on designs that can be replicated anywhere with simple materials, especially with recycling plastic into functional elements. By recycling plastics into functional and usable items, these items highlight how environmental awareness relate to human space and space functions.
To incorporate community into these IFI WID celebrations, the recycled items that were created with students/faculty/teachers at Liceo Suárez were donated to child-care centers and low income sectors throughout areas of Montevideo and neighboring areas, spreading the initiative of taking plastics out of the human environments.
