INTERIORS EVALUATION WORKSHOP | DORET SCHULKES
Asten | Netherlands
To best facilitate thought and engagement with IFI WID 2019, Interior Architect and Author Doret Schulkes provided an Interiors Workshop, looking at this years IFI WID theme of “Designing Spaces, Changing Lives”.
Looking specifically at ‘Life-course-proof’ being different than one thinks, Schulkes provided a workshop giving design community members and professionals the opportunity to evaluate the subject of ‘lifecycle-proof living’, giving a new meaning to the statement. As explained by Schulkes, “Life-course-resistant is a hip word. For me, however, the generally applicable interpretation of the term is far too limited. The term is used to designate homes that are being built or converted into homes where elderly can continue to live independently if there are physical limitations due to old age. But making your house life-course-proof in this way is a missed opportunity.”
During the workshop, Schulkes argued, “It’s kind of like laying straws in case you can’t chew your food later. Are you going to wait for this to happen? A house can help you stay vital longer. But you have to think about it and start on time…”
